SANGUINE HEIR
For my thesis exhibition 2025, I created a story and artwork for a drama series following my interpretation of a vampiric dynasty entangled in power struggles and infighting, ideally tailored for dark fantasy viewers.
The series follows the members of House Sekmysera in their day to day life, along with their wants and desires. Munira, the matriarch is oblivious to her children’s unhappiness and resent. Forever in their mother’s shadow they would either have to forge their own path or take it by force.

Author Note
“When creating the story I can’t help it, I love the drama! Whether it be Game of Thrones or Mob Wives I love a series orientated around family and values. It was important to me that these characters were POC coded, lots of franchises have dipped their toes in POC vampires but I wanted to shift the lenses away from Western interpretation and go East. The main inspiration for the world were countries like Algeria, Palestine and Egypt along with other countries in the Mediterranean and Middle East. Whether it be the architecture, clothing or culture all of it was integral to the creation of Abydalis”.
Artist Note
“I wanted each character to feel intentional in their design. Halima for example, her hair is always shiny because she’s slicking her hair back to conform to her mother’s idea of prim and proper. Selin’s hair is gorgeous and voluminous but it is still in a braid showing her attempt of staying within the bounds. Samira is the one sister with a drastically different hairstyle with hand cut bangs and her four signature puffs. I could go on and on about how each individual design aspect was intentional but I want that to read for itself!”
“Below you can see some of my preliminary research for character design including m prototype!”
